The Tony Awards, Broadway’s most prestigious awards, will be given out live on CBS Sunday night, and there are several Birmingham folks up for Tonys.

Carl Peoples, executive director of Central Alabama Theater, and four of his board members – Carolyn Violi, Andrew Duxbury, Renee Davis and Elaine Hendrix – are among the producers of “Stereophonic,” which has 13 nominations, the most-nominated play in Tony Awards history.

The play, about a fictional band in the ‘70s, features music by Arcade Fire’s Will Butler.

Violi, who is with the University of Alabama at Birmingham Theatre Department, is also part of the producing team for “The Who’s Tommy,” the Tony-nominated revival of the Who’s rock opera. Red Mountain Theatre is a producer of “Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club,” also nominated for Best Revival of a Musical.

Red Mountain is also part of the producing team for “Back to the Future,” which has a nomination for Roger Bart for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical.

The Tony Awards, airing at 7 p.m. Sunday on CBS.
