Birmingham’s Abigail Barlow took home a Grammy today for Best Musical Theatre Album.
She and Emily Bear won for their “The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical” album, besting Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cinderella,” “Girl from the North Country,” Stephen Schartz’s “Snapshots” and “Les Miserables: The Staged Concert.”
“The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical” has its roots in a TikTok experiment Barlow and Bear began in December 2020. Inspired by the Netflix series, they began writing a musical based on it, often live, where fans could comment as they created.
By February 2021, national media was taking note, and the album soon followed.
Barlow worked with Red Mountain Theatre before moving to Los Angeles. Her sister is actress Anna Grace Barlow, who starred in “Scream Queens” and most recently starred in Fox’s “The Big Leap.”
