Birmingham’s DeMarius R. Copes cast in ‘Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil’ musical

Birmingham’s DeMarius R. Copes has been cast in the upcoming Chicago world premiere of the new musical “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.”

Based on John Berendt’s 1994 non-fiction book about intrigue and murder in Savannah, Georgia, the show, with a book by Taylor Mac and music and lyrics by Tony-winner Jason Robert Brown, will run July 8 through Aug. 4 at the Albert Theatre in Chicago.

J. Harrison Ghee will lead the cast as Lady Chablis, with Tom Hewitt as Jim Williams and Sierra Boggess as Emma Dawes. Copes will play Jeremiah Jones in the show.

Copes was in the cast of Broadway’s “Some Like It Hot,” often filling in for Tony Award winner Ghee in the leading role. He’s also appeared on Broadway in “Mean Girls,” in the national tour of “Hamilton” and the film version of “Dear Evan Hansen.”

In Birmingham, Copes appeared in shows at the Virginia Samford Theatre, Red Mountain Theatre and Shades Valley High School.
