“Dear Evan Hansen,” “Cats,” “Fiddler on the Roof” and “An Officer and a Gentleman” are all coming to Birmingham starting in early 2022 as part of the Broadway in Birmingham season.
Here’s what the series of touring productions, all at the BJCC Concert Hall, has in store:
“Dear Evan Hansen” (Jan. 19-23, 2022): The six-time Tony Award winner (including Best Musical) tells the tale of a high-school student whose one seemingly little lie snowballs into something he can’t stop. This is an Equity tour, meaning actors are part of the Actors Equity Association and often have Broadway credits.
“Cats” (Feb. 17-20): Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical – one of the most popular in history and winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical – sets T.S. Eliot’s poems about cats to music. Songs include the theater standard “Memory.” This is a non-Equity tour, meaning actors are not members of Actors Equity Association.
“The Simon & Garfunkel Story” (March 10): A concert-style show featuring the music of duo Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. This is a non-Equity tour, meaning actors are not members of Actors Equity Association.
“Fiddler on the Roof” (March 31-April 3): The national tour of the revival of the Tony Award-winning musical about Tevye and his family. Songs include “If I Were a Rich Man” and Tradition.” A non-Equity tour, meaning ators are not members of Actors Equity Association.
“An Officer and a Gentleman” (April 28-May 1): Based on the hit movie, the musical tells the story of Zack Mayo, an arrogant U.S. Navy officer-in-training who finds love with a local factory worker. This is a non-Equity tour, meaning actors are not members of Actors Equity Association.
