The newly announced 2022-23 Broadway in Birmingham season includes five musicals, not the least of which is “Hamilton.”
The long-awaited arrival of the award-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda musical will take place at the beginning of 2023, but it’s not the only crowd-pleasing show on the schedule.
Here’s a look at the season:
“Anastasia” (Oct. 25-30, 2022): A musical set amid the Russian Empire and 1920s Paris about a young woman setting out to discover the mystery of her past. This is a non-Equity tour, meaning actors are not members of Actors Equity Association.
“Hamilton” (Jan. 24-Feb. 4, 2023 ): The 11-time-Tony-Award-winning musical, a tuneful telling of the story of Alexander Hamilton, comes to Birmingham for a two-week run. This is an Equity tour, meaning actors are members o Actors Equity Association.
“Come From Away” (March 14-19, 2023): The true story of 7,000 stranded airline passengers in the wake of 9/11. They’ve all landed in Gander, Newfoundland, turning the small town upside down. This is an Equity tour, meaning actors are members of Actors Equity Association.
“9 to 5” (May 9-14, 2023): Based on the hit movie starring Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton, the workplace musical features songs by Parton. (Don’t know if this is Equity or non-Equity right now).
“R.E.S.P.E.C.T.” (April 5, 2023): A one-night performance billed as an Aretha Franklin experience. This is an add-on show and not part of the four-show season ticket. This is a non-Equity tour, meaning actors are not members of Actors Equity Association.
Season tickets ($220-$435) are on sale now and include the four shows with multi-day runs.
