Rebecca Luker remembered in song tonight in New York

Three-time Tony nominee and Helena native Rebecca Luker, who died in 2020, will be remembered tonight at a New York event, “The Rebecca Luker Songbook: A Benefit Concert.”

The event at New York’s Symphony Space features performances by Julie Benko, Mikaela Bennett, Andrea Burns, Carolee Carmello, Nikki Renee Daniels, Laura Darrell, Ali Ewoldt, Marina Kondo, Emilie Kouatchou, Bryce Pinkham, Scarlet Strallen, Jessica Vosk and Sally Wilfert.

Joseph Thalken, a longtime collaborator of Luker’s, is the music director.

Twenty-four songs from The Rebecca Luker Songbook, songs inspired by and written for Luker, will be performed, and a portion of proceeds will be donated to Project ALS.

Luker, who graduated from the University of Montevallo, made her Broadway debut in “Phantom of the Opera” and went on to start in a number of Broadway shows, earning Tony nominations for “Mary Poppins,” “The Music Man” and “Show Boat.” She died from ALS at age 59 in December 2020.
