Rojo raising money for Theatre Downtown on Giving Tuesday

A scene from Theatre Downtown’s recent production of “The Crucible.”

Next week gives you the chance to support Theatre Downtown while also supporting one of Birmingham’s dining treasures.

On Tuesday, Jan. 23, Theatre Downtown will be the beneficiary of Giving Tuesday at Rojo, 2921 Highland Ave. South. What does that mean? It means that 10% of all sales at the restaurant from 5-10 p.m. will benefit the theater. It also means representatives of Theatre Downtown will be in Rojo’s side room to talk with you.

Theatre Downtown is in a transition period, having recently returned with “The Crucible,” its first full production in several years. The troupe is now looking for a permanent home.

Rojo, which Laney DeJonge and Clark Lopez have made a staple on Birmingham’s Southside for more than 20 years, is no stranger to supporting local charitable and arts organizations. Last year, its Giving Tuesday nights raised just over $18,000 for 51 groups.

So mark Tuesday down on your calendar. Eat some fantastic Latin and American food, and support Theatre Downtown in the process.
