Terrific New Theatre, in the process of renovating a building downtown to be its new home, will open in November with a production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park with George.”

That comes in the form of an audition announcement today on Facebook. Auditions will take place April 21 from 2-8 p.m. at the Dance Foundation, 1715 27th Court South, Homewood.

The show will be directed by David Strickland, with musical direction by Michael King, musical staging by Tahauny Cleghorn and costume coordination by Megan Pecot, according to the announcement, which says performances will be November-December.

Sondheim’s musical, centering on a fictionalized version of artist Georges Seurat, won the 1985 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

TNT, a Birmingham arts institution founded by the late Carl Stewart and Steve Stella in 1986, closed its doors at Pepper Place in July 2020 as a result of the pandemic. The theater’s board and Executive Director Tam DeBolt then began looking for a permanent new home for the theater.

In May, longtime supporters John and Louise Beard purchased a building at 2112 Fifth Ave. North and donated it to TNT.
